Long Layover @ DFW

We spent a 7 hour layover in Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Here's some recommendations to pass the time should you find yourself with a layover that isn't long enough to leave, but is too long to just sit!

On our way to New York to visit family, Josh and I ended up with a 7 hour layover in Dallas-Fort Worth. That's quite a chunk of time, but not enough to feel comfortable leaving the airport to explore. So, we found some fun options on the property!

The Grand Hyatt

The Grand Hyatt DFW is on the property, but outside of TSA/Security in Terminal D, easily accessible to the Skylink train that connects all of the terminals. We thought they might have some day-use rooms... we were super tired after getting up at 3:00am! However, we were incorrect. The front desk attendant recommended using www.dayuse.com to book a room at the Hyatt Regency DFW, and that they could call a shuttle for us since it is farther off the property. We decided against that but did decide to eat lunch at the Grand Hyatt's restaurant, Grand Met. I opted for a Market Salad with tofu, and Josh went for a Three Cheese Flatbread. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was calm and quiet.

Gameway DFW

Next, we took the Skylink to Terminal E at the recommendation of some very kind airport employees to scope out the gaming lounge, Gameway. They had an assortment of PC, Playstation, Xbox, and SuperNintendo stations for rent either by the hour ($25) or on an unlimited basis ($45). Josh chose Xbox, and we rented just for the hour. GamePass was available with a wide variety of games, and it was great to occupy us for an hour. I pulled up a chair and read my book while Josh played.

Capital One Lounge

After gaming for a while, we hopped back on the Skylink and returned to Terminal D where the Capital One Lounge is located. To have access to this lounge, you must be a Capital One Venture X cardholder or a guest of a cardholder.

We only used a few of this lounge's features, but everything we did access was top quality. Grab-and-go food items, the hot and cold food bar-- with cute little containers-- and the bar were worthwhile and filled us up. Josh especially enjoyed the sweets! The Turtle Creek Spritz, their play on an Aperol Spritz with a grapefruit spin, was refreshing and delightful while watching the runway. Overall, it's a worthwhile location to spend some time on a layover or before a flight.

Capital One also has lounges in Denver and Dulles for their Venture X cardholders. Additionally, this card also comes with a complimentary Priority Pass membership, with lounge access around the world. Kyle and I used this membership on our layover in Istanbul last summer, which I will post about soon!

This barely scratches the surface of all the dining, shopping, and leisure opportunities at DFW airport! If I had a little more time, I'd consider taking an Uber/Lyft or shuttle to Grapevine (about 15 minutes away) or taking the DART to Downtown Dallas for an overnight connection.

Happy travels!
